How to survive the August 5-6th Tube Strike

The #TubeStrike returns, starting 6:30pm on Wednesday 5th until Thursday 6th evening.

As before, we expect the entire Tube to shut down. However, the DLR, Overground and National Rail trains should still be operating, along with all the lovely buses.

We will be monitoring things in realtime, to ensure that you have the best information to get around town.

THE STRIKE SAFE SECTION RETURNS

No stress. Just plan your regular journey on our app and our superrouter will automatically remove all routes or sections of routes affected by the strike from the results, and only show you options that will be running at that moment. We will monitor and edit these in realtime.

TIPS FROM THE PREVIOUS STRIKE IN JULY

We had peak activity during last month's strike, and learned a lot. Here are some tips:

- The Tube continued to run past 6:30pm. Many lines shut down later in the night. Stations are harder to predict, some closed earlier than others.

- Buses will be much slower, travel times may be 2x longer than suggested. Check live departure boards, if buses are bunched up the ones coming later are generally better for getting a seat (or some oxygen).

- Cycle hires will disappear very very fast from the center of the city and other commercial locations :). Tap on the Near tab and the cycle icon to monitor availability in realtime.

Walking is far more competitive during times of traffic congestion. It's also healthier and a good excuse to explore the city.

STATS: THE LAST TUBE STRIKE IN JULY

If you like graphs, above is what happened to our usage during the previous strike in July.

On the first night of the strike, Londoners spread out the timing of their return journey home.

The real peak came in the morning, when everyone scrambled around the city at the same time.

MULTIMODAL WILL SAVE YOU

Strike days are good times to explore new things. And in a multimodal city it's amazing how many different ways there are to get around.

Try our unique cycle hire + train routing, to find routes you didn't even know existed.

Combine train + bus routes to pretty much access anywhere in the greater city.

We will show you how the lines are doing, but if it's like last time, it will look like this:
